Together, We Will Protect America’s Medicine Cabinet and Solve Our Nation’s Drug Shortage Crisis
Richmond, Virginia, September 8, 2023 – Phlow announced today that it will honor the 3rd National Essential Medicine Shortage Awareness Day (NEMSAD), a national observance day occurring each year on September 8, by reaffirming its commitment to create bold, new solutions that result in a reliable supply of high-quality medicines for all Americans.
“At Phlow, every day is National Essential Medicine Shortage Awareness Day. We believe that every single American should have access to vital, life changing medicine. To make this possible, we are rebuilding a resilient domestic supply chain capable of manufacturing our most critical medicines for the health of our nation,” said Eric Edwards, MD, Ph.D., CEO and Co-Founder of Phlow. “We again stand strong in our support of NEMSAD and are proud to join a nationwide movement that is determined to create domestic supply chain resiliency and reliability for our country’s most essential medicines.”
As part of its mission to help end shortages in the U.S., Phlow is proud to be a founding member of the Children’s Hospital Coalition, a first-of-its-kind coalition of leading hospitals working to end drug shortages that affect pediatric patients. Phlow is also manufacturing critical active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) for the federal government to be stored in the Nation’s first reserve of APIs, and key starting materials (KSM). This will ensure the resiliency and availability of critical medicines in times of geopolitical crises, trade disputes, natural disasters, or future public health emergencies. Phlow’s R&D laboratory, co-located with U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) in Richmond, Virginia and new manufacturing facilities in Petersburg, Virginia are part of Phlow’s U.S.-based manufacturing infrastructure that leverages advanced development and manufacturing processes to re-imagine the domestic production of KSM, API, and finished pharmaceutical products that are critical to U.S. healthcare.
“By deploying state-of-the-art flow chemistry, continuous manufacturing technology, and other advanced manufacturing processes, Phlow is solving for critical pharmaceutical supply chain challenges by moving far beyond the boundaries of the status quo in pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. Our newest facilities will help further the progress toward solving drug shortage challenges while providing end-to-end solutions in the U.S. that are fully integrated, comprehensive, environmentally friendly and cost competitive. There’s no better time to recognize this progress than on National Essential Medicine Shortage Awareness Day and to use our shared momentum as a reminder that there’s still work to be done to solve this crisis for all Americans,” said Edwards.
Phlow is recognizing the 3rd National Essential Medicine Shortage Awareness by not only reaffirming its own mission, but also by calling on industry experts, government leaders, and American citizens to help bring an end to essential medicine shortages.
